with stable address I meant abenker.com -> I don’t have an own address in the net (only twitter.com/benkman, googlemail-address, …) but not my own name
but I already sold my soul to Google and I hope they will live longer than me, so my Google-Addresses should be stable…

- agree on the playing around. wordpress.com is rather restrictive with plugins etc.
- disagree on stable adress: you can forward the adress blog.abenker.com to a hosted wp installation.
- agree on the going back if you make sure you don’t a) have a lot of images within your posts, b) don’t depend on plugins that the standard hosted systems don’t support. Especially the images are a royal pain in the … imagine 200 blog posts with aroudn 500 images uploaded. no way (at least i haven’t found one) to migrate that from a self-run installation to a hosted service.

Holger:
I long considered to move to my own domain. Main reasons:
- play a little bit with popular software
- establish a “stable address” for me (abenker.com)
- I can always go back to hosted platforms (Blogger, WordPress…) and use my domain to redirect

question: what made you move to your own domain? the reason why i am asking: I just did the exact opposite with my blog because i didn’t want to have to maintain the software anymore.
